Noisecheck Ltd, Havant UK, UKAS 2738 accredited sound insulation and airleakage testing
Noise measurement, sound insulation, and air leakage testing. Havant UK
All building development is subject to strict Planning & Building Regulations. New regulations require all new buildings to have adequate and appropriate sound insulation between dwellings. Specialised services and technicians are required to carry out comprehensive noise measurement tests to determine the effectiveness of sound insulation within tight guidelines. We are accredited to ISO 2738 for all procedures connected with the assessment of sound insulation and noise measurement.
With noise complaints on the increase and a growing litigious culture it has become essential that minimum levels of sound insulation are achieved.
Building regulation 'Approved Document E:2003' lays down minimum requirements for sound insulation between new dwellings.
Conversions
Old Victorian houses and disused shops can be converted into attractive multi-occupancy flats and maisonettes.
As well as new buildings, the 'Approved Document E', lays down minimum requirements for all new conversions.
Noise measurement and testing
To ensure new buildings and conversions comply with sound regulations a stringent noise measurement test must be carried out. If the building passes the sound insulation test a report stating a pass will be issued. If the building fails the noise measurement test, remedial action must be carried out to the sound insulation before the building can be re-tested.
Air leakage testing is becoming more relevant to modern architecture and building styles particularly those employing large glass facades. Air leakage testing is also relevant to sound insulation and noise control issues in so far as much of this interference in glass buildings can result from direct propagation, rather than conduction through secondary structural mediums. Making glass partitions and facades ‘air tight’ will help to greatly reduce the transmission of noise and also improve thermal insulation too.
Air leakage testing according to approved document ‘L’ is used to determine the degree of air flow through partitions and facades and make sure that these structural elements comply with all current legislation.
